Devotion of Perpetua and Felicity

This exhibition focuses on the devotion of martyrs in the third century which introduces topics of sacrifices in the pursuit of religious freedoms in the third-century. The story of Perpetua and Felicitas deserves repeated readings and citations because it is one of the most cherished religious documents. Perpetua is an educated woman who is twenty-two years old. Her excellent work ethics show that she not only could achieve wealth, but also lead a joyful life. However, her religious devotions lead her to choose to leave familiy members behind. Perpetua’s and Felicitas’ decisions to sacrifice for the God may appear extreme because they exchange lives for faiths. This page uses two modern mosaics to illustrate how Perpetua and Felicitas achieve saints.

This mosaic is a detailed nineteenth-century art that depicts the saints Perpetua’s and Felicitas’s faiths to the God at a Roman Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. Although their commitments to Christianity take their lives, Perpetua and Felicitas believe it is worthwhile to die for the God who empowers their lives. Their acts deserve public attentions because they succeed to use sacrifices as a symbol to show that religions are a fundamental element in creating a robust society. A person wants to practice ceremonies that celebrate faiths because it leads them develop mutual harmonies with each other. This art is made of golden glasses to show that Perpetua’s and Felicitas’s sacrifices transform them into saints. The texts close to Perpetua and Felicitas are the Latin words which describe the characteristics of Perpetua and Felicitas.

This art is another contemporary mosaic that demonstrates the theme of martyrs’ passions for the Christianity. It also uses the harmonious color glasses as a backdrop to show why Perpetua’s and Felita’s sacrifices create positive social influences. The mosaic shows that Perpetua and Felicitas are quite calm even when they enter arena. This scenario means that Perpetua and Felicitas understand their sacrifices have the power to lead significant changes. Although religious sacrifices take a lot of courage, this art shows that martyrdom deserves admirations.
